Caterpie - Macintosh "Classic"

I had mistakenly thought I had an SE/30, but when I dug this little sucker out of the box it was stored in, it turns out it's a Classic. As you can see it's a bit beat up, I got part way through "customizing" it before I got bored and moved on (that's a lexan window, by the way), and it's skidded around in storage for about 5 years now.

It still boots, currently runs MacOS 7.0, though I have a System6 disk somewhere that performs markedly better on it. I can use it as a terminal emulator, or access the internet via PPP over a serial cable. I haven't come up with a more useful purpose for it than that, so it sits back in storage again.

What makes it special?

Other than the banged up paint job, and the lexan window I never quite finished, not a whole lot. One of the cheaper Macs of it's age, it's quite underpowered. I was lucky enough to track down the original RAM daughterboard (which adds 1MB to the on-board 1MB), and a couple of 1MB 30-pin SIMMs for it, bringing the total to 4MB ram. The backside of the RAM daughterboard is visible through the bottom half of the window.

I don't have any other machines with a 3.5" floppy any more, let alone the crap required to get a PC to read/write a Macintosh formatted floppy. I can however transfer stuff to and from the Macintosh via a serial cable using Xmodem. Other than that, this box is just one of many things I can't bring myself to get rid of. I'd like to try and get it to run A/UX (and maybe a simple webserver), but I don't think it'll support it. If someone has an SE/30 laying around, I will happily take it off your hands.
