CIDGadget - Sick of running to the phone?

Okay, I'll be honest. I don't get that many phone calls. However, it's inevitable that when I'm the only one at home and I'm doing something productive, the phone will ring. It sucks having to get up and go see who it is, and every time I keep the cordless phone with CID on me, it's battery goes dead.

With the advent of broadband, most of us have a 56k modem laying around not doing anything. You'd be surprised how many are CID-capable. That's where this tool comes in. It was developed to "scratch my own itch", because I couldn't find another tool out there that was free that wasn't a pile of shit. It sits in your system tray, it holds the modem open, and watches for CID information to be displayed.

When it receives some, it displays a popup, and adds an entry to the call log. The popup is designed not to interfere with fullscreen video games, and will go away 10 seconds after the phone stops ringing.

This is completely free-to-use software. There are no nag-screens, spyware, or anything else included. I don't set my website to your homepage, if you wanted that you'd do it yourself. I am planning on releasing a for-sale version with improved features at a later date.

Impending Release

CIDGadget is currently undergoing beta testing to ensure stability. The last thing I want is an app that drags your PC's performance down. It'll be packaged up and released shortly thereafter.

Note that you can't use the modem at all while CIDGadget is running. This is fine if you're on broadband and never use it, but if you use it for faxes, speakerphone, etc, then it just won't work. I'm learning about device drivers and working on a solution for that.

Expect a release by the end of July.
